The Rainbow Legacy

Copenhagen Rainbow was a guesthouse catering exclusively to gays and lesbians.

When opening the Rainbow in August 2000, Klavs intended to fill a gap in gay accommodation in Copenhagen. A centrally located, cosy, comfortable, clean, no-nonsense bed & breakfast targeted at a more mature audience.

In the beginning the Rainbow had 4 rooms and Klavs ran the place by himself - with a little help from good friends now and then - while holding a full time job as a legal consultant at the City Hall just around the corner from the Rainbow.

In late 2003 Kristian moved in and got married to Klavs in 2004. Kristian took over most of the daytime tasks with serving breakfast and handling check-ins while working from home as a self-employed graphic designer.

During 2005 the Rainbow expanded with a fifth room and a guest kitchen. At the same time Klavs & Kristian's private apartment - located on the same floor as the Rainbow - was remodeled.

In the spring of 2009 Klavs was diagnosed with cancer. Klavs passed away in June 2010.

Kristian continued to run the Rainbow in Klavs' spirit for the rest of 2010 and from New Year 2011 on a more long term based concept without services while preparing to sell the private apartment. Later in 2011 Kristian moved from the old private apartment into the previous hotel rooms and is now remodeling the apartment to become a new home.

Klavs & Kristian

Thanks to all the wonderful people we have been so fortunate to welcome into our place over the years. Not least to those of you who kept returning time after time. It is fair to say that Klavs' vision and dream came true.

In loving memory
Kristian
